FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
1. I don't give out my credit card information. Can I just mail in a check?
Ans: Yes. When you sign up or renew, just select Personal Check as the payment method.
2. Do I need a PayPal account?
Ans: No. If you do not have a PayPal account, you will be given the option to use your credit card. If you do have a PayPal account, just login and use PayPal as you normally do. If you do have a PayPal account and want use your credit card as a PayPal Guest only, delete cookies from your browser as PayPal may remember you and then you will be given the option to use your credit card directly. Even with your PayPal login, you can switch from your default to your backup credit card at the point of payment. If you are having trouble paying online via the PayPal/secure credit card payment method, first email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and explain the problem or call Karl at 858-481-7910.
3. I have a NCCC Forum (Message Board) login name. Can I use this for my online membership?
Ans: Yes. During your initial sign up, just use your exact Forum (Message Board) email, login name, and password, including case.
4. The membership sign-up says my NCCC Forum (Message Board) login name is invalid.
Ans: The Forum (Message Board) and Membership applications have slightly different rules for valid usernames and passwords, although most should work (except special characters in either username or password). Just try it and see. Don't worry if your Forum login is unacceptable for NCCC Membership. Just create a new one as either login (old Forum or new NCCC Membership) will work just fine on the Forum (Message Board).
5. I want to use my Forum (Message Board) login name and the sign-up form says the name is taken.
Ans: That can happen only if you didn't use the exact same NCCC Forum password or email address (or some other bloke beat you to the punch and took your login name for NCCC Membership). If you forgot that password and you still want to have the same login name, you must go to the Forum (Message Board) and request or reset your password. If this is impossible, the simplest thing to do is just pick another login name and that will also work on the Forum as mentioned above. If you really need to have your NCCC Forum password reset, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
6. I just don't do this sort of thing on-line. Can I still be a member?
Ans: Of course. You can always fill out a hardcopy Membership Form, which you can print and mail the completed form and your check to:
North County Cycle Club
P.O. Box 2866
San Marcos, Ca. 92079-2866
7. I use a computer for email. Why shouldn't I continue to send in the hardcopy form?
Those who send in the hardcopy form only will require special handling at renewal time and for all club communications, generating extra work for your NCCC board. You will also generate extra work for yourself by filling in the same information each year repeatedly. Save yourself the effort by doing it once online, and then it's saved in the database so that subsequent annual renewals are just a couple mouse clicks. The hardcopy method is intended for people who do not use a computer, and we encourage computer users to sign-up online. If you are concerned about security, your personal information is more secure in the new NCCC membership database than in the previously manual file containing your personal data. The database contains no financial information. By signing up on-line, not only does it make it more convenient for you to keep your personal info accurate, but you can protect it with your own personal password (do not use any important passwords you may use for your credit cards, bank accounts, etc., for further safety). Most people are primarily concerned with giving credit card info online. As explained in FAQ #1 above, just select the Personal Check payment option if this is your primary objection to on-line sign up. Finally, the membership software handles all email communication to members, so you must be Signed Up in the database to be more readily connected with all NCCC electronic communication including, most importantly, your automatically generated personalized annual renewal reminder. Emails to hardcopy signees must be handled manually, so there is a chance, through human error, that you may miss out on key club email communications (keeping an accurate email list was one of the reasons for the upgrade to a true membership database, as it always had minor inaccuracies).
