Mike Trone was injured on his road bike on the Tuesday night Rancho Santa Fe Swami's ride.

He was in a sprint, handlebars broke and face down into the pavement.  Out for 7 minutes, ambulance ride to the hospital.  Concussion, multiple lacerations a lot of road rash and possible fractured sinus area on the face.  We'll know more by tomorrow.

Mike has NO insurance.

Joe Morgan, (Performance Bikes), and Bob Burgess are putting together a benefit ride for Mike.

Sunday June 14th, 8am at El Camino Bike. About 25-30 miles.

They are asking that people donate what they can.

Is he at Scripps Encinitas?

I just talked to him at the shop on Tues afternoon

Judy

Joe talked to the head/face specialist early this morning and he said the x-rays and cat scan looked good and he should recover fine. Mike is out of the hospital and staying with friends.

Glad to hear that he doesn't have a face fracture like I had and is recovering outside the hospital!

Mike was the first person I met on my first NCCC ride.  He was pulling stragglers up to the pack in the long ride about 10 years ago.

He was doing that again last Saturday.

Get well soon Mike!

I think I want to avoid those bars that broke!

I have not ridden with the club for several months but I can honestly say that I have known and ridden with Mike longer than anyone in NCCC. He is a great friend and compatriot on and off the bike. He has always been there for everyone with his caring, bike knowledge, and friendship whenever we have needed it. We all have a comrade who needs our help and weather he would ever ask for it or not, I hope everyone will do what they can, as we would for any of our fellow riders. Joe Morgan at Performance is on top of things as best he can. I'm sure he would be able to answer your questions. Thanks for whatever you may do. -John

One day I was really dragging, cramping and bringing up the rear on a long ride. Mike wouldn't leave my side. When I told him "You really don't need to hang with me", he flashed his big grin and said, "Karl, I don't have anything better I'd rather be doing." I don't think there's anything better to do on June 14 other than ride for Mike.

Mike's motto has always been to never leave your wingman! A lot of us have seen this first hand! So, I talked with Mike today, and he's actually going to try going to work tomorrow. Mike is such an animal. The main reason I'm writing, is let everyone know that you can send a get well card, and if you are so inclined, a gift of any size to:

MICHAEL G. TRONE
1106 Second Street, #271
Encinitas, California 92024

I know Mike really appreciates all the help. I don't know how much this will all cost, but it can add up really fast, as we all know how expensive medical help can cost. Mike was riding his commuter bike (the Paramont) and says they were doing about 32 or 33 mph when the accident occurred, man that is moving. His bike is actually doing way better than he is.

You can give him a call as well @ 760.414.1232
Thanks again-wayno :-)

How can I contribute if I can't make the ride??

Contact Joe Morgan at Performance Bicycles, Oceanside. 760-726-5559

Checks can be made out to Mike Trone or to Joe Morgan.  Joe is then going to get a cashiers check made.  His personal address is below and you can contact him at Performance Bikes.

Sorry to not know this, but is Mike the guy who normally rides the red/black Masi? If so, then he is one of the nicest guys around. Always super friendly to me.

I'm traveling Sunday so can't do the ride but intend to send something to the address above.

thanks,
-Graham

Sorry to miss everyone, but we are out of town this week end.

Mike's above address in Encinitas is where he gets his daily mail. Be sure to send him a get well note or donation.

Thanks again.
